Child custody disputes are adjudicated through Sunni or Jaafari Family Courts based on the family's religious sect. Courts prioritize the child's best interests, typically granting physical custody to the mother during early childhood, provided legal criteria are met.
Can non-Muslim expatriates file for divorce in Bahrain?
Yes. Non-Muslim expatriates can file for divorce in Bahrain's civil courts. The proceedings can be conducted under the laws of their home country (if pleaded properly) or under applicable local civil legal frameworks.
What documents are required to get married in Bahrain?
A medical examination certificate from one of the accredited hospitals in Bahrain, passports of both individuals, ID cards of both individuals, the agreed-upon dowry (in relation to the husband), and proof of current or previous social status via a marriage or divorce certificate (in relation to both parties).
Can non-Bahrainis marry in Bahrain?
Non-Bahraini individuals and couples that include one non-Bahraini are allowed to marry in the Kingdom, provided that one or both of them is resident.

Labor Law

How much notice must I give my employer when resigning?
As per the Bahrain Labour Law, you need to provide a 30-day notice to the employer through mail sent to the registered address of the company.
Can an employer keep my passport or ID?
Under Bahraini law, it is illegal for an employer to forcibly retain an employee's passport or legal identification. If your employer refuses to release your documents, legal action or a formal complaint through the Ministry of Labour can be initiated to secure their immediate return.
Am I entitled to compensation for wrongful termination?
Yes. Under Bahrain Labour Law (Law No. 36 of 2012), if an employee is terminated without valid legal cause, they may be entitled to financial compensation alongside end-of-service indemnity, accrued leave pay, and notice-period dues.
